Our Investigators room provides a vibrant and engaging learning environment for 12 children aged 2 to 3 years, supported each day by four qualified and experienced educators. This stage of development is one of extraordinary growth, where children begin to recognise themselves as capable individuals while discovering the joy and complexity of learning alongside others. Our high educator-to-child ratios allow us to provide intentional teaching, meaningful interactions and responsive support as children navigate this exciting period of development.
Between two and three years of age, children experience remarkable advances in their social, emotional, cognitive and communication development. Research highlights that the relationships children build during these years provide the foundation for empathy, emotional intelligence, resilience and future success in collaborative learning environments. Our educators intentionally create opportunities for children to develop these essential life skills through authentic play experiences and everyday interactions.
Social development is a key focus within our Investigators room. As children begin forming genuine friendships, they learn to recognise the feelings, perspectives and ideas of others while developing an understanding of belonging within a group. Through carefully scaffolded experiences, educators support children to negotiate, cooperate, take turns, resolve conflicts respectfully and work collaboratively towards shared goals. These early experiences of collaboration and problem-solving help establish the social competencies that research identifies as critical for future learning, school readiness and lifelong wellbeing.
Recognising the importance of language development in this group of learners, our educators intentionally embed rich language experiences throughout every aspect of the day. Through meaningful conversations, storytelling, singing, shared reading, open-ended questioning and intentional modelling of language, educators extend children's vocabulary, communication skills and confidence to express their ideas, thoughts and emotions. These responsive interactions not only strengthen communication but also foster early literacy, critical thinking and strong relationships.
As children's confidence and independence continue to grow, our curriculum encourages curiosity, creativity, persistence and problem-solving through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Children are encouraged to investigate their environment, ask questions, explore new ideas and learn alongside their peers, with educators thoughtfully extending their thinking through intentional teaching and responsive interactions.
This period is also an important time for developing the physical skills that underpin future learning. Our educators intentionally provide experiences that strengthen both fine and gross motor development, recognising the strong connection between physical development, confidence and later academic success. Through climbing, balancing, running, dancing, sensory play, creative arts, construction experiences and the use of developmentally appropriate tools, children build coordination, strength, body awareness and control while refining the hand skills required for drawing, writing, self-help tasks and creative expression.
Inspired by our connection with nature, the Investigators room offers welcoming indoor and outdoor environments that encourage exploration, movement and discovery. Open-ended resources, natural materials and thoughtfully designed learning spaces invite children to investigate, collaborate and engage in uninterrupted play, while fostering a strong sense of belonging, wellbeing and respect for the natural world.
Above all, we recognise that every child develops at their own unique pace. By building secure relationships with children and families, listening deeply to children's voices and intentionally supporting each child's strengths, interests and emerging capabilities, we create an environment where children develop confidence in themselves, meaningful connections with others and the skills to become capable, compassionate and enthusiastic learners as they prepare for the next stage of their learning journey in our Engineers room.
